EXCURSIONS

​

SEFS13 is pleased to be working with a number of local businesses to bring you an exciting day of excursions as part of the conference programme. We have everything ranging from water adventures, wildlife experiences, local history and beer!

​

All excursions will take place on Wednesday 21st June. There will be no sessions scheduled for this day.

​

SEFS13 is also excited to announce an exclusive event to help fund early careers colleagues attendance at SEFS14 in 2025. Entry to this event is included in your excursion ticket. This event will take place at Wylam Brewery from 5pm – 11pm on Wednesday 21st June, the perfect end to a perfect day out. You can expect music, good food, expertly crafted beer and the opportunity to network with colleagues and friends whilst raising important funds to help support the next generation of freshwater scientists and practitioners.

 

A percentage of each excursion booking will go towards supporting SEFS14 Early Career Bursaries.

Excursion places are limited and sold on a first come, first served basis. Excursions are available to book here during the registration process. If you have already registered and didn't book an excursion during the registration process you can add on an excursion by emailing us at sefs13@abbeyuk.com.

Gorge walking & white water tubing adventure - £110pp

Includes: A full day of activities, travel, all specialist equipment and supervision, packed lunch, photos from your day and entry to the SEFS13 Summer Solstice Social.

Departing conference venue, Fredric Douglas Centre, at 9am. This is a full day excursion which will return and drop off at Wylam Brewery in time for the SEFS13 Summer Solstice Social at 5pm.

We’ve combined two popular water activities into one stunning excursion.

Hit every key element of gorge walking and white-water tubing and we guarantee you will be all adventured-out.

 

Seahouse grey seal cruise with Seabirds and Bamburgh Castle visit - £90pp

​

Includes: All activities, travel, packed lunch and entry to the SEFS13 Summer Solstice Social.

​

Departing conference venue, Fredric Douglas Centre, at 9:30am. This is a full day excursion which will return and drop off at Wylam Brewery in time for the SEFS13 Summer Solstice Social at 5pm.

​

Bring your binoculars to make the most of this sail around the Farne Islands. This tour offers excellent views of the nesting birds on the cliff faces and viewing the grey seals at several vantage points along with an informative commentary throughout. Followed by a visit to the home of the Anglo-Saxon Kings of Northumbria - Bamburgh Castle.

 

Osprey Watching Cruise and Kielder centre visit - £90pp

Includes: All activities, travel, packed lunch and entry to the SEFS13 Summer Solstice Social.

Departing conference venue, Fredric Douglas Centre, at 10am. This is a full day excursion which will return and drop off at Wylam Brewery in time for the SEFS13 Summer Solstice Social at 5pm.

Guided by expert naturalists, Wild Intrigue, you’ll head out onto Kielder Water on a wildlife cruise in search of Ospreys, which return from Africa to nest here each year to raise their young. Explore the local Kielder Forest and find out the hidden gems this area has to offer.  

 

Ouseburn & Tyne Kittiwakes walking tour - £55pp

Includes: Two walking tours, packed lunch and entry to the SEFS13 Summer Solstice Social.

Optional Extra: Wylam Brewery Tour & Tasting - £35pp

Departing conference venue, Fredric Douglas Centre, at 10:30am. This excursion will conclude near to Wylam Brewery for anyone wishing to add on the Brewery Tour & Tasting. Otherwise we look forward to welcoming you back to Wylam Brewery for the SEFS13 Summer Solstice Social at 5pm.

Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the world’s most inland seabird colony on Wild Intrigue’s popular Kittiwakes experience.

 

Newcastle highlights & history walking tour - £55pp

Includes: Walking tour, packed lunch and entry to the SEFS13 Summer Solstice Social.

Discover Newcastle during this fascinating walking tour and explore one of the greatest cultural cities in the country. Fantastic museums, art galleries, public spaces, world-class architecture from classical to post-modern as well as some brilliant history from Romans to today.

 

Wylam Brewery Tour & Tasting - £65pp

 

Includes: Guided tour of Wylam Brewery & tasting and entry to the SEFS13 Summer Solstice Social.

 

Meet at Wylam Brewery at 3pm. The tour will conclude in time for the SEFS13 Summer Solstice Social starting at 5pm.

 

Take a tour around Wylam Brewery, right in the heart of Exhibition Park, and learn about the brewery and sample some of the award winning brews.

SEFS13 Summer Solstice Social - £30pp

​

For those not booking an excursion but would still like to join us to support the next generation of freshwater scientists and practitioners at the SEFS13 Summer Solstice Social.

 

Includes: Welcome beer, street food, music and cash bar.

 

Meet at Wylam Brewery from 5pm onwards, event concludes at 11pm.

 

An exclusive event to help raise funds to support early careers attendance at SEFS14 in 2025. You can expect; music, food, beer and the opportunity to network with colleagues and friends while raising important funds to support our early careers colleagues.
